LACLIMA   |  LATIN AMERICAN CLIMATE LAWYERS INITIATIVE FOR MOBILIZING ACTION

In 2025, with COP 30 in Belém and the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement, Brazil occupies a strategic position on the global stage; we are therefore intensifying our efforts to ensure that decision-making at all levels considers climate action in a transversal and effective manner. In doing so, we aim not only to impact local policies, but also to contribute to a more robust and collaborative global climate agenda.

LACLIMA is an institute whose mission is to research, develop, disseminate and implement climate knowledge and policies, supported by the lens of law, with a multidisciplinary approach.

Our areas of focus cover a wide range of topics related to climate action, including: the UNFCCC international climate regime and the Paris Agreement, mitigation efforts, climate justice and just transition, adaptation strategies, loss and damage, carbon markets, transparency and climate finance, climate litigation, among others. All our efforts are aimed at promoting effective climate action.

We operate based on four programmatic axes, using training as a transversal tool:

Global Advocacy
Our goal is to support Brazilian, Latin American, and Portuguese-speaking societies in gaining a better understanding of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Paris Agreement, and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) for the implementation of these conventions at the national level. Through the LACLIMA Delegation, we train and update members of civil society, government delegations, and other stakeholders on the international negotiation process. Our work contributes to building a decarbonized economy and a society more resilient to climate change.

Climate Policy
We influence public policies through the integration of research, technical training, and the production of qualified knowledge.

Subject Areas
We develop technical and informational materials to educate and democratize access to knowledge, enhancing the climate debate with a solid and accessible foundation.

LACLIMA Network
Through the LACLIMA Network, we are transforming the legal-climate ecosystem in Brazil and Latin America. We operate at the forefront of knowledge in climate law, demonstrating that there are new paths to be explored and consolidated in a constantly evolving field. The LACLIMA Network is an engaged community that promotes actions focused on education, research, awareness, and advocacy in the field of climate law. Currently, the Network comprises more than 1,300 members—including students, graduates, lawyers, and legal professionals—engaged in 13 Thematic Working Groups.
