LACLIMA will hold the webinar “ COP Talks: From COP 30 to SB 64 – Paths to the 2026 Climate Agenda” on June 2nd, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM (Brasilia time). The event is part of the Rio Nature & Climate Week program and will be held online, bringing together experts to discuss the main developments of the international climate agenda after COP 30, held in Belém, and the themes that should guide climate negotiations throughout 2026. The purpose of this webinar is to analyze how the political outcomes and legacies of COP 30 can influence the debates at the intermediate meeting of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which will take place in Bonn, Germany, in June, as well as contribute to the preparation for COP 31, scheduled for November 2026 in Antalya, Turkey.

The online seminar will address key themes of the 2026 international climate agenda, such as the implementation of climate commitments, adaptation, just transition, financing, the development of sectoral roadmaps, and strengthening the participation of civil society in international negotiations. The discussions will feature contributions from experts such as Flávia Bellaguarda, Diosmar Filho, and Francesca Dattesi.

According to André de Castro, technical director of LACLIMA, the current moment demands attention to the capacity to transform political decisions into concrete results. “After COP 30, one of the main challenges becomes implementation. The international climate agenda enters a stage where it will be increasingly necessary to connect multilateral decisions with real mechanisms for execution, financing, and climate justice. The Bonn Conference is an important forum to measure the capacity of countries to advance in this direction,” he states.

According to Castro, issues such as adaptation and just transition should occupy an increasingly strategic space in climate negotiations throughout 2026. “Adaptation is no longer a peripheral issue. Today it is directly linked to the protection of vulnerable territories, the reduction of inequalities, and the very credibility of the international climate regime. At the same time, there is a growing understanding that there is no effective climate action without a socially oriented just transition,” he emphasizes.

The event is aimed at civil society organizations, legal professionals, researchers, students, communicators, social movements, public policy makers, and others interested in following international climate negotiation processes.
