Event brings together experts to discuss the constitutionality of the Environmental Licensing Law under review in the National Congress.

LACLIMA will hold the webinar “ Environmental Licensing in Debate ” on March 31st, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM , bringing together experts to discuss the impacts of the new Environmental Licensing Law and the challenges for its implementation in Brazil. Environmental licensing, one of the main instruments of Brazilian environmental policy for assessing and mitigating the impacts of potentially polluting activities, is undergoing significant changes with the new Environmental Licensing Law, recently approved and the subject of intense debate.

Among the main concerns are potential setbacks in environmental protection, risks to socio-environmental rights, especially those of indigenous peoples and traditional communities, and impacts on the country's environmental and climate governance, in addition to legal challenges already underway in the Supreme Federal Court.

Given this scenario, the webinar "Environmental Licensing in Debate" proposes a space for qualified dialogue to discuss the effects of the new legislation, its implementation challenges, and ways to strengthen environmental licensing as an essential instrument for socio-environmental protection in Brazil.
