LACLIMA participates in a debate on just transition at the Amazônia Terra Preta 2026 Festival.

On August 8th, LACLIMA participated in the Amazônia Terra Preta 2026 Festival, held by the Mapinguari Institute, in Macapá (AP). The organization was part of the panel “Just Transition: it is necessary to believe in the work of the territories that hold up the sky”, at the headquarters of the Union of Black People of Amapá (UNA).
Represented by Julia Stefany, a Climate Policy and Carbon Markets analyst, LACLIMA contributed to the debate focused on the inclusion, participation, respect, and understanding of the traditional peoples who safeguard the territories in the just transition process.
The event brought together perspectives from female farmers, artisanal fishermen, extractivists, indigenous peoples, and quilombola communities. The meeting highlighted that addressing the climate crisis requires strengthening sustainable territorial economies, guaranteeing rights, and expanding public investment in solutions historically developed by the territories themselves.
“Talking about a just transition requires recognizing that protecting our territories is a condition for facing the climate crisis. These territories not only play an essential role in climate balance, but also produce knowledge, work, and solutions built over generations. Strengthening these initiatives involves guaranteeing rights, expanding investments, and ensuring that these experiences have a voice in the formulation of public policies,” says Júlia Stefany.
The debate was part of the Festival's Training Program, which included activities on environmental racism, climate loss and damage, oil exploration in the Amazon estuary, adaptation, food sovereignty, and just transition.
Participation is also related to the work of the LACLIMA Network, the first Latin American network of legal professionals and students focused on climate change. With more than 1,300 members in different regions of Brazil, the initiative promotes technical deepening, exchange of experiences, and connections between different areas of expertise.
