From August 3 to 7, LACLIMA will participate in São Paulo Climate Week 2026 as an institutional partner of the initiative, which brings together companies, governments, investors, academic institutions, civil society organizations, and leaders to discuss solutions capable of accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Inspired by the world’s leading Climate Weeks, São Paulo Climate Week has established itself as a collaborative platform for building connections, fostering innovation, and turning climate commitments into concrete action. In its 2026 edition, the event reinforces the city’s role as one of Latin America’s leading hubs for advancing the climate agenda, with discussions on decarbonization, finance, innovation, adaptation, urban resilience, and a just transition.

As an institutional partner, LACLIMA contributes to shaping this agenda and strengthening coordination among governments, companies, academic institutions, civil society, and international organizations. Through its work on climate policies, carbon markets, and instruments for the low-carbon transition, the organization seeks to turn commitments into tangible results and support a just, orderly, and equitable energy transition away from fossil fuels.

Seminar: “Calibrating the Compass for Brazil’s National Roadmap Away from Fossil Fuels” | 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The seminar will promote dialogue with civil society based on a survey of issues related to building a shared vision for the transition away from fossil fuels.

The initiative is organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the University of Campinas (Unicamp), with institutional support from LACLIMA and Observatório do Clima.

August 4

Article 6 of the Paris Agreement: Updating the Map of Climate Cooperation | 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The event will discuss progress, challenges, and future perspectives regarding carbon markets and the cooperation mechanisms established under the Paris Agreement. The activity is part of a program dedicated to Article 6, connected to the Action Agenda’s Solutions Acceleration Plans, and forms part of the “Finance, Technology, and Capacity-Building” track.

During the event, LACLIMA will launch two publications. The first is the policy brief “The Transition from the CDM to Article 6.4: Integrity, Asymmetries, and the Future of the Carbon Market,” which examines one of the most significant ongoing changes in the international climate policy architecture.

The study explores how the replacement of the former Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) by the mechanism established under Article 6.4 is redefining carbon market rules, expanding the role of national governments, and establishing new parameters to ensure the environmental integrity of the credits generated.

LACLIMA will also present the second edition of the “Guide to Understanding Carbon Markets and Cooperation Instruments under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.” The publication updates the guide released by LACLIMA in 2024 and incorporates the main changes resulting from recent international negotiations, including decisions adopted under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and at the Conferences of the Parties (COPs).

The State of Climate Implementation | 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Organized by LACLIMA, the event will examine the progress already made, the obstacles that continue to hinder the implementation of climate policies in Brazil, and what is needed to accelerate delivery of the climate agenda ahead of COP31.

The program will combine panels and thematic discussions on governance, finance, adaptation, and the role of subnational governments, as well as the implications of recent advisory opinions issued by international courts on climate change.

LACLIMA is also supporting the event “The Amazon: Territories and Futures,” organized by Casa Amazônia. The program will bring together panels on culture and climate, the legacy of COP30, youth, innovation, and regenerative development.

The dialogue forum will convene Amazonian leaders, researchers, and cultural professionals to discuss how experiences and knowledge developed in the Amazon can contribute to building more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable futures.
