Held in April, the meeting brought together a technical and strategic audience: national focal points for Article 6.8, representatives of the Parties from Latin America, non-Party stakeholders, and registered support providers, reinforcing its targeted and applied nature.

Workshop Objective

The workshop aimed to strengthen capacities and deepen understanding of Article 6.8, supporting the identification, development, and implementation of Non-Market Approaches (NMAs) in Latin America.

By bringing together key stakeholders from the region, the meeting sought to promote a qualified exchange of experiences with a practical focus, also highlighting the role of collaboration between governments and non-state actors to improve the design and implementation of NMAs.

Meeting Dynamics

The workshop was structured as an interactive space, combining technical presentations, case studies, question and answer sessions, and participatory activities.

It also included a technical presentation on Article 6.8 and its platform, providing an updated overview of projects already developed and initiatives underway. In addition, we had the participation of a representative from Chile, who presented a project already registered on the platform and how the country has structured itself to operate the process of registering and implementing NMAs in the region.

Furthermore, the meeting included discussions in small groups (breakout rooms), followed by consolidation in a plenary session, which allowed for a more direct exchange of experiences and the collective construction of learning.

LACLIMA's role

In addition to facilitating discussions during the Workshop, LACLIMA contributed with the session “Structuring Support for NMAs: Insights from LACLIMA,” presenting case studies and lessons learned from its role as a support provider under Article 6.8 of the UNFCCC, especially in Brazil. The presentation highlighted challenges, opportunities, and practical pathways to support Parties and stakeholders in the implementation of NMAs, followed by a discussion with the participants.

Contributions like this reinforce LACLIMA's commitment to strengthening capacities and supporting the effective implementation of Article 6.8 in Latin America.
